Rainbow Mexico 2007-2008 Gathering

We are still growing, many chlidren allready at the site, they have adapted amazingly.
Kids village is up and expanding.
Kitchen, main areas, welcome home is underway…
We have also been plating some seeds.
Everybody seems delighted with the rivers and the astonoshing nature.
Usually around the end of january there are peacocks at the source.

We have comited a few activities with the local communities.
Reforestation and recycling station at el desengaño.
Enviromental education in schools.
We have agreed to create a performance for new years in las choapas.
On the 28 of november in Exchange for food for the rainbow.

We are also working on a permanent kitchen that we be a circular contruction of about 14m high and 14 diameter, in a Traditional maya architechture. That will stay int he community.

The indigenous women of the area have consensed to not have alcohol in the area.
It is considered a dry county by law, so alcohol is not sold anywhere close.
We infasize to please not bring alcohol.
The rainbow as other international rainbows is a one vegetarian main kitchen, though there will be bakeries, fruit and raw kitchen and other snack areas.

Climate:
The weather has been wonderfull, in the past 14 days, it rained only 2 nights, besides that there have been scattered Light showers, though for the past 8 days there hasn´t been any rain at all, clear skies, the roads are dry.
It`s pretty hot during the day, the river sourounbds the site, so water is easily accesible.

Camping:
There is a lot of riverside camping...
We recomend a tent or a hammock with tarp.

Needs.

We have a portion of the water pipe neended to bring mineral running water to the kitchen. In the measure we are growing we are getting short of kitchen supplies, like pots, woks, cutting boards, etc…

Also its hard to find brown rice here in bulk, and spices like curry, cardamon, tumeric etc. It would be great if someone could bring nori, tahini, peanut butter, sprout seeds and goodies if this sort.
We are also running low on tools for woodwork and, shovels, machetes, axes, saws and gardening tools and of course organic seeds...

We also need tea tree oil, citronella (for main fire candles), GSE, band aids, etc...

Trasportation.
By land.
From the north.
You can get to las choapas from mexico city, from the main terminal TAPO you can find direct buses.
From the south.

There is now a new way we discovered that could be very convienient for those coming from chiapas, and the south.

From Malpaso, Chiapas, there are boats going to soxtitlan (30min) from there you would have to arrange trasport to El desengaño (90-120min) (We have just discovered this route, if anyone is willing to discover this path please send feedback to the newsgroup.

From las choapas.
Transportes uxpanapa will start a run to el desengaño from the 8th of January onwards, it will be going there twice a week, we will be posting the times schedules here.
In las choapas just ask for transportes uxpanapa that is located in the southern terminal.
In the case you want to make it there another day, then either take the bus to cerro nanchital, from there the milkman can often take a few to el desengaño daily for around 50 pesos, otherwise you can ask martin maldonado ramos, 923 232 27039 to take you there for around 50 pesos per person all the way to the closest drop off spot towards the site.

Any trasportation updates will be posted in front of the ticket office of trasportes Uxpanapa.

From el desengaño
Walk 30-40 min untill you see a blue gate on your right, with a rainbow umbrella, pass through the gate and then just follow the red ribbons.
In case you are overloaded thgere are several cars in town that can take you to the blue gate. Or down to don esteban reyes house, there are some horses there that can be arranbged to take some cargo to the site.

From the Gate to the site is another 30-40 min walk.

Driving here.
From las choapas, the road has a lot of ditches, and driving time is about 3-4 hours to el desengaño, all the cars (low suspension) that have come here made it through ok, though if you have really low suspension, then maybe you should check the road first, if its not raining the access is much easier.

Donations.
If you can help us by sending us some cash for the magic hat it would be great, there are still many things needed.

The site is paradise, though like any paradise there are all kinds of animals, and bugs, there are no mosquitoes, though there are other types of bugs...

The site is the last strectch of grasslands and borders at the site with an inmense jungle. So come prepared to live within nature and natural beings.

There is a lot of exitment in the air, lots of energy for planting and building, and an opening of a space that you can actually stay or at least know you can come back to.

We hope to see you soon, here in rainbowland! !!
